Chief is our most severe abuse case. He was chained to fence and left for dead. Then some local town people cut him loose from the fence and took gave him to a ranch. The ranch used Chief as a gelding demonstration and then called the horse killer to come out and shoot him. The horse killer called us and said that he knew of a horse whose only problem was people...and could we rescue him. We said yes and Chief has been at Wildhorse Ranch Rescue since 2000.
Chief is blind in both eyes and he has had skin cancer. Each day, he gets medicine in his eyes and we monitor his cancer. So far, he's doing very well and the cancer has not returned. His 'seeing eye horse' is Lady. He follows her around and she makes sure he doesn't bump into things in the corral.
