Ghar was taken in by Wildhorse Ranch Rescue on 9/12/13.

Before Ghar came to the ranch, he was living in Mesa, AZ and rapidly loosing weight. He went from a healthy looking horse in 2012, to merely skin and bones in 2013. It was very dramatic progression and it was an indicator that something very serious was going on. Wildhorse Ranch Rescue reached out and helped him get tested for any possible underlying medical conditions.

When the test results came back, he was diagnosed with Equine Cushing's Disease (aka - Equine Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID). Cushings Disease or PPID is caused by a tumor on the pituitary gland. This often causes the entire endocrine system to go out of balance. In Ghar's case, the pituitary gland was very overactive and was eating away at his muscles and not allowing for him to metabolize his food efficiently.

WHRR was there to take him in when he was in his darkest of days and when he so desperately needed specialized round the clock care with daily medicine for his Cushings and a soft place to lay his boney hips.

Looking at the picture above, it is so breathtaking to see how far he has come in just two months. He has angels watching over him and caring for him every day. It wouldnt be possible without each and every one of the Wildhorse Ranch Rescue volunteers. They have given him a new beginning and his story of progress continues!

Stay tuned for the next Chronicle of Gharnia..
