Hello everyone,

It pains me to post this message.

Today, the first day of 2009, we lost Chief.

New Year's Eve morning he was having trouble standing. By midday, he could not stand at all.

We stayed by his side throughout the night and into the morning.

We had a horse blanket under his body and a fluffy blanket under his head.

It became clear that this was Chief's New Year's Day farewell to all of us.

He was calm, peaceful and surrounded by some of his biggest fans.

I have to thank Peter McEvoy for bringing us to Chief long ago when his life was once again in jeopardy.

Chief taught us all that no matter what your past, you can still have a happy ending.

I, personally, have never met a horse with more class, courage and personal pride than our Hero, Chief.

In 2003, Chief won a Hero award for all that he went through.

We will miss him but we know his life was good at Wildhorse Ranch Rescue.
